Save the Bees

Honey bees are integral to growing the foods we eat. They pollinate many food crops, and they produce honey as well as a variety wax products – products that are increasing in demand as consumers seek more natural and locally grown goods. Unfortunately, honey bees have suffered increased colony mortality in recent years.

That is why the Auburn University Bee Lab was created. Opened in 2016, this lab investigates causes and solutions for bee colony mortality.

The Bee Lab also trains undergraduate and graduate students in bee biology and beekeeping, enabling these students to contribute to this growing industry.

Your gift to the Bee Lab will help supply a variety of tools and equipment to help train these students. This includes:

•       Uncapping equipment used to remove honey from comb cells.

•       Extractors used to spin honey from the comb.

•       Settling tanks and bottling equipment used to move honey from the extractors and into bottles.

The new equipment will enable the Bee Lab to expand its research while including more Auburn students in this vital work.
