Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic competition in which students role play as delegates to the United Nations from a specific nation during a simulation of various UN committees and agencies.
The purpose of the competition is to engage with and identify creative solutions for the most urgent issues and problems in the world today by accurately portraying the interests and positions of a specific country and collaborating with delegates from other universities, also representing specific countries.
This year, Auburn's team will compete at the Southern Regional Model United Nations (SRMUN) in Charlotte in March 2019 and needs funds for fees and travel.
The more support we receive, the more students that will be able to attend the conference and represent and compete on behalf of Auburn.
Each MUN competition awards delegations for superior research and preparation, accurate portrayal of a selected country, and the ability to collaborate diplomatically over some of the most difficult and controversial issues facing the world today.
This past November, Auburn students competed at the Southern Regional MUN Conference in Atlanta as delegates from the Kingdom of Denmark against the best teams from across the Southeast. The competition involved more than 30 hours of simulating various committees of the United Nations and debating topics ranging from the economic impacts of migration, to the status of refugees, to the promotion of disease prevention and treatment through the World Health Organization (WHO).
For the competition, there were 12 students on Auburn’s delegation who competed in pairs in a simulation of six different committees of the United Nations, including the UN General Assembly (UNGA), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), Interpol, the UN High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
At SRMUN-Atlanta, Auburn’s team was awarded two Best Delegation Awards in recognition of the team’s hard work.
Auburn’s Model UN team is looking to build on its recent successes. With your generous contribution, you can be a central part of making Auburn #1 in MUN. Help us showcase Auburn’s academic strengths and support the leaders and problem-solvers of the future!
