Increase Engineering Diversity

The Association of Public Land-Grant Universities recently reported that although the number of black engineers has increased in recent years, they still account for less than 4 percent of all engineering bachelor’s degrees. Auburn University’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is working to change that. And you can help.

Auburn’s NSBE aims to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the communities they serve.

We are raising funds to provide an opportunity for Auburn’s black engineering students to attend this year's NSBE convention to interview for jobs, internships, and graduate school, as well as network and meet with mentors from organizations throughout the nation. Your gifts on Tiger Giving Day will cover student travel and lodging costs for the national conference in Detroit.

In accordance with the group’s mission, the Auburn NSBE chapter will also use the funds to help make a difference in the community through the creation of youth programs that share the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). These programs provide STEM-related activities that encourage youth — particularly those in low-income areas — to pursue higher education.

Tiger Giving Day gifts will also support Auburn’s Black Girls Rock event, showcasing minority women at Auburn and their achievements.

These students are the embodiment of the Auburn Creed, exercising and believing in hard work, education and the human touch. Your support of our goal guarantees that these students will have every opportunity to reap the reward of professional experiences as they continue to change the world.

If you are an Auburn Engineering graduate, your gifts will count toward the SEC Engineering Challenge. From now until June 30, 2019, your gift of $100 or more will count toward Auburn’s standing in the SEC Engineering Challenge. The school with the highest percentage of alumni responding will win the SEC Engineering Challenge.
