Help the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) continue their community papermaking outreach programs by upgrading and manufacturing a new portable papermaking cart.
Teaching and inspiring future generations of college students to pursue and advance engineering industries has been a long-standing tradition for our organization. Every year, Auburn's TAPPI student members participate in outreach events with local elementary, middle, and high school students.
Not only do we teach them how paper is made, but through the use of our portable cart, we are able to show them. This cart provides a simplistic, hands-on demonstration of fundamental paper machine concepts by transforming a dilute solution of suspended wood fibers into a circular hand sheet. Our goal is that at the end of each day, at least one student goes home to exclaim, “I made a sheet of paper today!” The twofold purpose of these events is to increase awareness in future generations about the possibilities of the pulp and paper industry, while also allowing TAPPI students to practice applying their knowledge of the paper making process.
In addition to outreach events within the Auburn community, TAPPI will also use the paper making demonstration cart to educate fellow Auburn students about the opportunities of the paper industry, and in turn recruit them to join TAPPI.
This Tiger Giving Day, your generous contributions will help us manufacture a new upgraded cart to improve the portability and capacity of our outreach programs. The updated aesthetics and functionality will allow us to continue to get students excited about TAPPI and the paper industry for years to come.
