Increase Science Fair Participation in Under-Resourced Schools

Each March, Auburn University hosts the Greater East Alabama Science and Engineering Fair (GEARSEF), which covers the largest geographic region in the state.

We are seeking funds to increase science fair participation in under-resourced Alabama schools. Your gift will help provide stipends to Auburn students who serve as Fair Ambassadors by sharing their fair experience and mentoring middle and high school students with their projects.

It also will help provide teacher workshops and student transportation to the fair. 

Science and engineering fair participation increases self-confidence, communication, and problem solving-skills. It increases the likelihood of the student becoming a part of the future science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) workforce. Finally, it provides opportunities to compete for scholarships and awards to help fund STEM degrees. 

However, many of the students who could most benefit from these opportunities never get the chance to participate. 

In the last six years, we have increased the diversity of schools and students represented at GEARSEF, but still only a fraction of the schools in our region are getting to compete. Please help us make sure everyone in our region has a chance of getting to the fair.
