Plainsmen's Prep gives incoming first-year students the chance to review pre-calculus and calculus topics needed to be successful in their courses at Auburn University. The program was designed to acclimate students to the rigors of Auburn University academics, familiarize them with the AU campus, and community build with other incoming first year students. Students interact with AU faculty, staff, and other undergraduate students to help aid in their transition and give them at head start to their overall success at Auburn.
Any student is encouraged to participate, but the camp is best suited for those who are entering into a STEM field and need to “brush up” on their math skills. On Tiger Giving Day, we are hoping to offset camp fees for students ($800 per student) and raise at least enough to fund two full camp scholarships.
Plainsmen's Prep will kick off its second year in August 2017. While the main focus of the camp is to retain and help progress students in their majors through enhancing their abilities in pre-calculus and calculus, there are also many secondary goals of the camp. It was designed to give students a taste of the collegiate experience. Students will participate in activities outside of the classroom to build community and leadership skills, and help students make friends and adjust to their new college life.
“I feel more confident and prepared to take on my classes and make the best use of the resources tuition is providing,” said a 2016 camp participant. “This week has definitely been a great start to my life at Auburn.”
