Our goal is to raise $6,000 to provide passports for 40 first-generation students so they can participate in study abroad opportunities.
First-generation students have been underrepresented in study abroad participation. Even though the overall cost of study abroad is comparable to the same term on campus, one of the additional financial barriers preventing students from accessing these beneficial programs is the expense associated with applying for a passport.
When students return from a program abroad, they use words like transformative, life-changing, enriching, and rewarding to describe their experience. That’s because undertaking an academic program in a foreign country contributes to a student’s scholastic, personal, and professional development. Providing passports for Auburn first-generation students will motivate them to participate in a study abroad program and will be their ticket to becoming a well-rounded world citizen.
Cover the passport application and acceptance fees for one student.
