We have purchased the equipment necessary to digitize audio recordings of campus speakers from the 1960s and 1970s, and are already in the process of transferring recordings.

Our goal is to have most of our collection digitized by the end of 2018. We will then build a website to make the collection completely accessible to the public.

Lovers of Auburn history might be interested in a 1964 recording we just digitized. The recording is an interview of Dr. Howard Strong as he shares memories of Auburn’s first official University Librarian, Mary E. Martin.

We’re very proud of the progress of our project so far, and we’re looking forward to sharing more with all of you in the future!

On behalf of everyone at Auburn University Libraries, thank you for helping us reach our goal for the Special Collections and Archives. We’re looking forward to acquiring the equipment needed to properly digitize, preserve, and publish these speeches and pieces of legacy media for students, faculty members, researchers, and the general public.

While we have reached our goal for the equipment for our audio reel-to-reel tape decks, we still have other preservation projects we’d love to begin working on, like digitizing collections of rare and fragile Civil War letters, historical journals, and Umatic videotape cassettes.  Any additional donations made to this Tiger Giving Day project will go towards helping us accomplish those projects.
