Rebuild the Davis Arboretum Bridge

This Tiger Giving Day, the Donald E. Davis Arboretum needs you to help them rebuild the small bridge over the pond. Materials used for its construction will offer an educational and outreach tool for the Auburn Family.

The current bridge is 42” across and too narrow for more than one person to cross at a time. The bridge also requires upgrades to bring it into compliance with the American Disabilities Act so it can be accessible for everyone.

The new bridge will be constructed using a composite wood material, allowing us to use the bridge as an educational tool during outreach programs that highlight the benefits of recycling. Materials used to create the wood are the byproducts of the sawmill industry and recycled plastic, combined to create a longer lasting wood-like material.

Arboretum Curator Morgan Beadles said she hopes that the bridge, which would be installed during the 2019 fall semester, could be constructed as a class project for the McWhorter School of Building Sciences’ Service Learning Class.

“This also will allow the students in this class an opportunity to leave a lasting mark on Auburn’s campus that they will continue to visit for years to come,” Beadles said.
