Help reduce food waste and teach students about food production with Alabama 4-H!
Support the purchase and installation of raised garden beds, which will allow for 4-H students to participate in seasonal planting, harvesting and consumption of garden varieties.
Located in Columbiana, Alabama, the 4-H Center is home to the Alabama 4-H Science School where young people from across that state take part in a variety of outdoor Environmental Education programs and activities.
In efforts to educate (and demonstrate to) young people about diverse food sources and promote healthy living, Alabama 4-H and the 4-H Science School have initiated hands-on learning curriculum for day and overnight youth participants at the 4-H Center.
Students who come to the 4-H Center will learn alongside growers and support the cultivation of food, then taste the fruits of their labor, as the food grown on site is used to create the menus for our dining hall.
4-H is a nationwide youth organization administered by the land grant university system. In Alabama, Auburn University is home for 4-H headquarters and the agents and specialists who develop 4-H educational programs offered by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. 4-H gives young people opportunities to learn by doing while led by experts from Auburn University and Alabama Extension, who are versed in the latest advances in technology, agriculture, human development, and more.
