Graduate Women in Science, or GWIS, hosts outreach events that provide educational opportunities to elementary-aged students. Each event is created with a goal to inspire the next generation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students. Our chapters’ outreach events reach approximately 100 students each semester.
Tiger Giving Day will help us develop and expand on our current events so we can benefit as many elementary-aged students in the community as possible.
Our project goal is to raise funds for four outreach events. Your donations will help us rent spaces for the events, increase the quality and number of our scientific demonstrations, provide take-home supplies for the students in attendance, and hopefully increase the total number of students with which we can engage. Your Tiger Giving Day donations will also help us provide these events at no cost to the attendees!
These GWIS events are crucial to illustrate the importance of science in the world around us and to show younger students what female scientists look like. These outreach events also benefit Auburn University by highlighting the research that is occurring on campus to a broader audience.
The volunteer graduate student presenters often use this event to create unique demonstrations that directly reflect their research.
As we continue to support, educate, and inspire graduate women and children in our community, we hope to achieve a goal of $2,000 through Tiger Giving Day to offer more outreach events and opportunities for children in the Auburn/Opelika communities to be inspired to become scientists!
Thank you for your consideration, and War Eagle!
Help us with the necessary supplies for our events with a donation of $100!
