Add a Quilt to the Museum Collection

For Tiger Giving Day 2022, our project is to acquire a new piece of art for the university’s collection. The Jule is raising $15,000 toward the purchase of a dual-sided quilt by Gina Adams, Treaty with the Creeks, 1790 from her celebrated Broken Treaty Quilt Series.

This specific work is deeply rooted in our region, as Auburn is on the original homelands and territory of the Poarch Band of Creek Indigenous Peoples. Adams shares about the power of community as it relates to art, and specifically her genre of fiber art, quilting:

“Quilting is thoroughly American; the quilt and quilting bees symbolize community and the promise to work together as a group to finish a major endeavor.”

What is our endeavor? A world with more empathy. Through study and dialogue around art, everyone can begin to understand our place in the world and within that longstanding history. We collect to share the arts and humanities with students, faculty and the region. We can address artist representation so that our teaching collection reflects everyone’s story and a wide variety of artmaking.
