Help 4-H Stay on Target

Tiger Giving Day is over, but you can still give to the Alabama Cooperative Extension System here.

Alabama 4-H programs have been shaping the leaders of tomorrow for more than 100 years. With programs from robotics to livestock, sewing, cooking, and everything in between, there is something for every young person in our state.

In a continued effort to allow all of Alabama’s youth an opportunity to participate in a unique and challenging sport, Alabama 4-H is needs to make significant upgrades to our archery program. These upgrades will enhance access and opportunities for young people in all areas of Alabama.

Funds from this year’s Tiger Giving Day will provide much-needed archery equipment—including new bows, arrows and targets, as well as outdoor archery range upgrades. In addition, we have plans to build and create an indoor range. This would allow 4-H’ers the opportunity to hone their archery skills even when it is raining

Over the past two years, Alabama 4-H documented a 25% increase in youth participation in its Outdoor/Sporting Awareness Fun Education (S.A.F.E.) Shooting Sports program offerings. Archery, specifically, has seen exciting growth of more than 30% participation in local, regional, state, and national competitions. However, significant upgrades to equipment, target ranges and facilities are necessary to continue providing top-notch programming for young people interested in learning more about archery.

The Alabama 4-H Center offers archery introductions at 4-H camp. For many, this ignites a “spark” in personal growth and development, and helps young people begin to develop responsibility and social awareness. Youth learn marksmanship, safe and responsible use of firearms, principles of hunting, archery and much more. The program activities, in tandem with support of caring adult leaders, provide young people with opportunities to develop life skills, self-worth and conservation ethics.

In the event that our campaign goal is met and exceeded, funds would be used to provide additional archery practice material where the need arises.
