OSHA Safety Courses for Service Learners

The McWhorter School of Building Science at Auburn University was established in 1947. It is the second oldest construction education program in the United States and has more than 3,000 graduates located worldwide, including many who lead the construction industry in the Southeast United States.

These students are highly engaged in many service learning projects prior to graduation and enter the workforce with an exceptional understanding of construction safety and a 30 hour OSHA Certification Card.

However, The McWhorter School of Building Science wants to use its faculty and resources to train students of ALL majors to put safety first.

Last year, hundreds of students from ALL majors participated in service learning programs both close to home and overseas in places like Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica – most of which involve construction. These students are making a tremendous difference in the world through service-learning, but many lack proper and thorough construction safety training.

This Tiger Giving day, we’re raising funds to provide safety equipment and FREE 10-Hour OSHA Safety Courses for ALL Auburn University students who plan to work on construction-related service learning projects.

We also have a generous donor willing to match every gift made, up to $10,000. This essentially doubles your gift if you give before 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 21!

Students benefitting from this campaign will receive:

  • Construction safety training led by McWhorter School of Building Science faculty who are OSHA certified trainers.
  • A class 2 safety vest
  • clear and dark safety glasses
  • A hard hat
  • And a 10-hour OSHA card (Ten hour OSHA certification is an entry-level course that teaches students how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job related hazards on a construction site.)

Please help the McWhorter School of Building Science provide proper safety training to ALL Auburn students  – regardless of their major. Your generous support of this project ensures ALL student leaders are prepared to put safety first – wherever their service leads them.
