Students Feeding the Hungry

We know there are people who need nourishing meals, and we know Auburn has unserved food in its dining halls and brilliant students in its classrooms. So we put them all together!

We collect unserved food, turn these donations into nourishing meals, and deliver those meals to people who need it most.

The best part is that students run the whole show. We plan the menus, get the food, run the cooking shifts, organize the drivers, provide nutrition programs for local children, and teach culinary skills to unemployed adults. Then, we keep track of all of the paperwork (so we know everything's being done safely), organize fundraisers, develop curriculum, and recruit new students to get involved.

We accomplish an incredible amount of work every day! Our chapter won the Spirit of Sustainability Award at the national conference as well as the “Growing the Movement” award at the national Food Waste and Hunger Summit. In 2016, we collected 14,136 pounds of food to package and delivered 11,109 meals in the region.  

Your contribution will purchase supplies needed to package and deliver the meals as well as support for the student leaders within the Campus Kitchens Project to attend the national conference for Campus Kitchens Project. This conference affords us the opportunity to not only showcase the incredible work they are doing on Auburn’s campus, but to also learn best practices to increase our involvement in the war on hunger.
