Veterans Success Scholarships

Auburn University’s Veterans Resource Center assists in the successful transition to college life for veterans, active duty military, members of the Guard and Reserves, and military family members receiving Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits.  We welcome our veteran students and want to make Auburn a more financially accessible place for military service members and their families. The Veterans Success program will do just that. Our Tiger Giving Day goal is to raise $5,000 in scholarship funds for veteran students who enroll in this program.

The Veterans Success program will include a mentoring relationship between veteran students receiving this scholarship and alumni or friends of Auburn who will serve as mentors for at least one academic year. In this capacity, mentors will provide advice, accountability, and support to their partner students.

Currently, the graduation rate among veteran students is more than 90 percent. But we want them to not only graduate, but also to experience great success here and be prepared for their careers when they leave. The Veterans Success program will further this goal and fill in the gaps that are often left in traditional VA programs.

The VA offers many opportunities but these programs often fall short in fully covering college tuition, fees, and related expenses. And once a veteran begins receiving VA educational benefits, the G.I. Bill only covers 36 months of tuition and living expenses. While veterans are grateful for such benefits, this often leaves them without any discretionary funds or a method to pay for their fourth and potentially fifth year of college. These institutional barriers can delay graduation, which can add to student loan debt, or even lead our veteran students to drop out of college with a large debt load, but without a degree.
